We’re in our final week before Spring Break and the forecast highs tomorrow are near 70. We can just about feel the breezes of summer. Next to the first day of school in September, this is my favorite day of the year.
A news item in the Democrat and Chronicle might have slipped your attention last week. It had to do with a reenactment of the funeral of Susan B. Anthony.
Do you remember the game where a message is whispered to one person who then whispers it to another and on down the line until it comes to the last person? I learned that game with the name telephone.
I talked about second chances on Friday, how life is full of second chances, we just have to be willing to look for them. I saw real live evidence of that over the weekend.
One of my favorite sources for thought starters is Fred Rogers. His little book, “The World According to Mr. Rogers,” is a real gem. Here’s what Mr. Rogers has to say about being strong:
I was listening to the radio the other night and I heard the song, “Tin Man,” by America. There is a lyric in that song that says, “Oz never did give nothing to the Tin Man that he didn’t already have.”
I was listening to a song the other day that first became popular when I was a junior in high school. It was written by Peter Yarrow, one of the trio of Peter, Paul and Mary. The song has become a classic. It’s called, “Puff the Magic Dragon.”
Boredom seems to be a real enemy during this extended period of social isolation. When we’re in school, the only unstructured time is lunch. We know how long our classes last. We know who we’re going to see in the hall in between classes and everything seems to fit nicely into the pre-packaged day. Not so much now!
The first quarter of the school year is history. No efforts of yours can change the results.
