When I was growing up, we talked about the 3 R’s—Reading, ‘Riting and ‘Rithmetic. Of course they’re not really R’s, but they did emphasize the part of education that was considered the most important.
I feel very fortunate to speak with you twice a week and to share some of the values that I consider to be important to living a happy life. Yesterday, I heard a story that moved me deeply. It was a memoir written by Mary Ann Bird and entitled, “The Whisper Test.”
During the 8-1/2 years I have been writing and delivering “Words of Wisdom,” I have been inspired by many people in my attempt to express helpful thoughts for living. I have heard my mother’s words from my youth.
I read a book a couple years back aimed at young adults. It carried some big time lessons. The book is called, “Fat Kid Rules the World,” by K. L. Going. It’s about a 17 year-old boy named Troy Billings who weighs in at a hefty 298 pounds. He is large and unhappy and is considering suicide at the beginning of the book.
If you have ever tried to buy or sell anything on E-Bay, you know that the price is directly related to the uniqueness of the item on sale. In other words, if you are looking to buy a mint 1968 Chevrolet Corvette and there’s only one available, you are going to pay a lot more than you would for a 1999 Honda, one of 25,000 such vehicles.
