Boundary

The first video game, invented more than 35 years ago, was called “pong.” It was unsophisticated but very popular. The skill involved was judging the angle of a carom, like in shooting billiards. I think of that game when I watch passing time sometimes in our halls.

Family Birthday Words

Today is my father’s birthday. If he were still alive, he would be 94 years old. Today is also my daughter, Jessica’s birthday. She is 33 years old today. When she arrived on my dad’s birthday, we decided to name her after him—her middle name is Nora, my dad’s name was Norman.

13 going on 30

2020-06-07T19:12:17+00:00

It’s nice to have a three day week to start out the school year because the change in schedule from summer takes some adjustment. By next weekend, you’ll probably feel like you’ve been back in school forever.

It’s You I Like

One thing I especially like about middle school age is that we begin to learn how to be a friend. If we are doing it right, we learn to love, support and be there for our friends. Being a friend does not mean blindly following or supporting our friends through bad or self-destructive decisions.

Respect

2020-06-07T18:40:41+00:00

I think Aretha Franklin said it best when she said: “R-E-S-P-E-C-T Find out what it means to me R-E-S-P-E-C-T Take care, TCB Oh (sock it to me, sock it to me, Sock it to me, sock it to me) A little respect (sock it to me, sock it to me, Sock it to me, sock it to me)” Actually I never really understand most of that except I like the respect part.

Women’s Friendship

I was listening to a radio program the other day interviewing a female author who had pretended to be a man in order to write a book about the differences between the sexes.

One of my students gave me a really funny and interesting book a week ago. It’s called “Kid’s Little Treasure Book on Families.”

Playing Fair

The discussion continues everywhere you look. Is it better to win or is it more important to play fair, win or lose?

Bullying Words | Basic Life Values

Boredom seems to be a real enemy during this extended period of social isolation. When we’re in school, the only unstructured time is lunch. We know how long our classes last. We know who we’re going to see in the hall in between classes and everything seems to fit nicely into the pre-packaged day. Not so much now!
