13 going on 30

2020-06-07T19:12:17+00:00

It’s nice to have a three day week to start out the school year because the change in schedule from summer takes some adjustment. By next weekend, you’ll probably feel like you’ve been back in school forever.

Equality

2020-06-07T19:07:47+00:00

Susan B. Anthony once said, “If one of us is not equal, none of us is free.” Her statement reflects two things I believe in completely. First, that we are all connected and second that only if we are equal are we truly free to be whom we strive to be.

Black History Month 2

I spoke on Friday about the belief by African-American leaders in the importance of education.

Election Words

I want to take a couple of minutes this morning to talk about what I’ve learned by running for Monroe County Legislature these past 9 months. For those of you who don’t know, I ran in the 10th district of Pittsford and East Rochester, the area where I live. I didn’t win.

Really Lost

2020-06-19T20:23:09+00:00

Have you ever felt really lost? I remember, as a boy, I visited my grandfather’s farm in southern Minnesota. The corn was tall, and I was warned not to go out into the fields; but I went anyway. I got hopelessly lost and soon I began to panic. I yelled for help.

It’s You I Like

One thing I especially like about middle school age is that we begin to learn how to be a friend. If we are doing it right, we learn to love, support and be there for our friends. Being a friend does not mean blindly following or supporting our friends through bad or self-destructive decisions.

Women Helping Others

Today is the first day of spring. I know it doesn’t seem much like spring out there today, but this is only the beginning. Three months from now, we’ll be greeting summer, walking out the door and enjoying our personal time of rejuvenation. But now it’s March 20th, cold gray and windy

King’s Words

2020-06-07T18:44:17+00:00

There’s no school on Monday, and the first reaction is to wake up at the normal time, cheer, roll over and go back to sleep. That sounds good time, too, but before you do that realize what Monday is all about. It’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day and it honors one of the truly remarkable leaders in American history.

Respect

2020-06-07T18:40:41+00:00

I think Aretha Franklin said it best when she said: “R-E-S-P-E-C-T Find out what it means to me R-E-S-P-E-C-T Take care, TCB Oh (sock it to me, sock it to me, Sock it to me, sock it to me) A little respect (sock it to me, sock it to me, Sock it to me, sock it to me)” Actually I never really understand most of that except I like the respect part.

Women’s Humor

I have four young grandchildren and I can guarantee you one thing about them; they all have a sense of humor and love to laugh. In fact, a desire to laugh is one of the things we all share as human beings. We don’t all think the same things are funny, but we all think something is.
